A DORSET charity is offering people the opportunity to be one of the first to run on the Olympic athletes’ track in London.
Diverse Abilities Plus will see the winners of the competition run 100m on London’s Olympic Park track, as part of the Gold Challenge, which is one of the official London 2012 Legacy projects to raise money for charity.
For the chance of winning this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, local people including schools, businesses and community groups need to sign up and take part in the Gold Challenge’s 2,012km Challenge.
Collectively, teams have to cover a distance of 2,012km by undertaking various sports such as running, swimming and rowing, although for the less ambitious, there is the option of the 201.2km Challenge.
Teams have until the end of 2012 to complete the challenge, but the prize-winners will be the two teams who have raised the most sponsorship money by Friday February 24.
Those lucky few will then get to run on the track, in front of friends, family and a cheering crowd of 20,000 people.
Ashley Weedon, community fundraiser at Diverse Abilities Plus, said: “This is an amazing opportunity for those in Dorset who are inspired by London 2012 to get active and raise money for charity.
“Those that take part could be one of the first people in the world to run 100m on the track, which will see the stars of Team GB and Paralympics GB compete in the summer of 2012.
“Once signed up, make sure you start fundraising as soon as possible to be in with a chance of winning a place on the Olympic running track in April.”
As part of the prize, the two winning teams will receive a fanfare send-off, entry to the Olympic park via the F10 Bridge and a lane in the 100m race with a photo at the finish line and goody bag.
