THE British Chambers of Commerce Quarterly Economic Survey (Q3 2008) received over 5,000 responses from businesses of all sizes and sectors and virtually all the key national balances have worsened, and many are in negative territory for the second quarter in a row.

Prosperity based on borrowing is how, over the last decade, this Government have fuelled the economy. This Government and the Country has been on a borrowing binge on the back of property prices and the belief that somehow the property boom would go on and on.

Advisers have recently slammed new tax rules as being “riddled with problems”, as more red tape looms for family businesses. The legislation follows HM Revenue & Custom's defeat in the courts against Geoff and Diana Jones of Arctic Systems, a husband and wife business that it claimed had unfairly split its income and dividends to lower its tax bill.
